Yves Rossy, a.k.a. "Jet Man", yesterday completed a flight as historic as it appears kooky, crossing the English Channel from Calais, France, to Dover, England wearing, basically, a large wing on his back with four small jet engines attached and a helmet.
It's one of those things I would love to try "in principle".

The airport at St. Barth's is famous for its short landing strip hemmed in at one end by mountains, at the other by a strip of beach. Landing there in one of the puddle-jumpers that shuttle to and fro from St. Martin and other nearby islands is, to say the least, a hair-raising experience.

We encourage Aviation Spectator visitors to try FlightGear, a completely free, open-source flight simulator.
The only caveat: to make it work, you need a huge amount of RAM, otherwise the experience may be less than electrifying. A lot less. I tried it on my sad little laptop.
On the plus side, it does very much of what Microsoft's Flight Simulator does, but costs, as it happens, nothing whatsoever. A plus in my book.
